History
Common background at Dator
It is hardly possible to describe the background of Intelligent Systems without mentioning Dator. Intelligent Systems originates for better or worse from the culture and people, which met and worked together at the former Danish software company Dator and later on FKI Logistex Denmark. This is where the two founders of Intelligent Systems first met in 1998.
The software company Dator A/S in Hadsund grew during the nineties and at the end of the decade it was considered one of Denmark's market leaders. Dator was known for its well skilled employees and its high competence within development of mission critical software for a number of industrial partners and customers.
Dator worked with partners like e.g. Crisplant and Univeyor on projects for packing and postal sorting, luggage systems for airports and store and sorting systems for retail trade and distribution. Dator was the supplier of control software for more than 100 industrial lines worldwide. Among these some of the largest retail and distribution enterprises like e.g. FedEx, US Postal, Wallmart, Quelle, Deutsche Post, Levi Strauss & Co. og Triumph.
FKI takes ownership of Dator
Like many other IT companies Dator had to experience the truth of recession in the line of business around 2000. Earnings failed and the equity capital quickly disappeared.
In 2001 Dator was sold to the worldwide concern FKI, which had also taken over the ownership of Crisplant two years earlier. FKI was building up a worldwide division of subsidiaries within automatic material handling under the name FKI Logistex. Initially Dator was merged with Crisplant's own software department in the subsidiary FKI Logistex Dator-Crisplant, but in 2003 the company merged with the rest of the old Crisplant to form FKI Logistex Denmark.
An idea was born
I 2005 Frank and Niki's parted, when FKI Logistex moved their software department from Hadsund to Arhus. Instead of joining them Niki chose to seek new challenges at Capgemini in Arhus.
At the same time however, Frank and Niki started to form the idea of Intelligent systems. They kept in contact and during the winter 2005-2006 the idea began to take shape. At the end of January 2006 the idea turned into a 100-page business plan and Frank and Niki quit their jobs at FKI Logistex respectively Capgemini in order to establish Intelligent Systems.
In this way Dator's greatness and fall, FKI's acquisition and removal became the germ of Intelligent Systems. The competences, network and business relations that were created at Dator are form a considerable part of the basis of Intelligent Systems.
