Warehouse & Distribution

Warehouse and distribution

Intelligent Systems delivers high level control systems for warehouses and distribution centers. We have delivered solutions for some of the most challenging and complex customers within warehouse and distribution and to customers with world class supply chains. We can deliver projects on our own platform: Intelligent WMS/WCS and on our partners products.

Automation is the key word, and in cooperation with customers Intelligent Systems creates effective and automated solutions that generate transparency and ensures processes go smoothly and contribute to a world class supply chain. Our warehouse control system (WCS) is a software application that control the real-time activities within warehouses and distribution centers. As the “traffic cop” for the warehouse/distribution center, the WCS is responsible for keeping everything running smoothly, maximizing the efficiency of the material handling subsystems and often the activities of the warehouse associates themselves. It provides a uniform interface to a broad range of material handling equipment such as carousels, conveyor systems, sorters, palletizers and robots which results in maximized efficiency.

Today the demands and margins in the supply chain is challenged  and a vital process of any business. To improve these processes, we have helped customers to improve and automate processes, create transparency and ensure all operations are securely executed so their customers experiences a first-class supply chain.

Our intelligent and automated solutions create transparency and collaboration between many systems so our customers experience increased efficiency, less manual handling and our 24/7 hotline guarantee stable operation – around the clock, year-round.

Intermarché

Intelligent Systems works as a sub-contractor to BEUMER Group – one of the world’s leading providers of automated sortation systems. We had the pleasure of developing the high-level controls for the French supermarket retail chain Intermarché.

Intermarché is a leading supermarket retail chain with more than 2000 stores, and high focus on providing excellent service to their customers – a high demand which in return demands for an effective and robust supply chain.

The sortation solution ensures that Intermarché is always able to supply their supermarkets with fresh supplies. Intermarché own suppliers make deliveries to the hub every day for the goods to be sorted and re- palletized according to new orders for each specific supermarket serviced by the hub.  The hub delivers every day and with a short distribution time from supplier to store to ensure a constant flow of fresh goods. An other benefit of the sortation solution is that Intermarché has full traceability of all goods for any quality issue to be tracked and addressed in a constructive and timely manner – all part of ensuring the high quality to Intermarché consumers.

Direct wine

Direct Wines Ltd. is the world’s largest mail-order wine merchant. Located in Gloucester, England, the company operates through its own directly controlled wine club Laithwaites and also serves as 3rd-party operator for a number of Internet and mail order wine clubs, including the Sunday Times Wine Club, and wine clubs of Natwest, British Airways, a number of banks and other corporations.

Direct Wines also has a majority shareholding in the online wine retailer Virgin Wines, acquired in 2005. Direct Wines pioneered the model of selling wines directly from producers to consumers, working with a vast network of grape growers and wine producers worldwide. The company started in Bordeaux in France and has long played a leading role in discovering new wine regions for the British wine sector. Direct Wines itself produces 20% of the 4 million bottles of wine they sell each year. They serve more than 700,000 active customers and operate with a marketing strategy across many media.

Univeyor has installed an ultra modern conveyor belt for Direct Wines’ more than 16,000 sqm distribution centers, located in Theale and Gloucester. This plant handles over 4,000,000 boxes of wine each year and has been converted from a paper-based system to an SAP-powered voice control system. This system handles empty boxes from locations in the warehouse and allows to pick the easiest possible access. Then, pre-packed boxes are moved from pick-up areas to shipment, where they are sealed and provided with packing labels – ready for shipment.

“Maximum productivity is the key feature of the new distribution center and the installation of Univeyor’s automated system will ensure we can achieve it.” Melvyn Brown, General Manager.
